It’s a sad day for comic fans. According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, Adam West, the star of the 1966 classic television series, Batman, has passed away at 88 years old. The cause of his untimely passing was from a short battle with leukemia.
West past away peacefully surrounded by his family and is survived by his wife Marcelle, 6 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero,” his family said in a statement.
West stated that he took on the role of Batman “for laughs, but in order to do [that], one had to never think it was funny. You just had to pull on that cowl and believe that no one would recognize you.”
Along with Batman, West is known for his role as the crazy mayor of Quahog, Mayor West, in Seth MacFarlane’s long running animated comedy, Family Guy.
Talkies Network wishes the West family all the love and support in the world during this immensely difficult time.
