Since opening two weeks ago, Wonder Woman has earned acclaim from both critics and fans and has now reached a box office milestone.
According to Forbes, Wonder Woman earned $6.03 million domestically at the June 15 box office which put the film on track to reach the big $500 million mark. As of now, according to Box Office Mojo, Wonder Woman has earned a whopping $517,376,730. The film earned $41 million in its third weekend, taking second place at the box office.
This total puts Patty Jenkins in an elite group of directors as she becomes the fourth woman to direct a film that has reached the $500 million mark at the box office.
Meanwhile, taking the top spot away from Wonder Woman this weekend will be Pixar’s highly anticipated sequel, Cars 3. The film is tracking a $60 million haul by the time the weekend is done.
Cars 3 isn’t the only film debuting this weekend however. The film is facing competition from Rough Night, 47 Meters Down, All Eyez on Me, and The Book of Henry.
All Eyez on Me is outperforming expectations at this time. Despite garnering negative reviews, the biopic is currently in the running for third place at the box office with the possibility of also over taking Wonder Woman for the #2 spot. All Eyez on Me is currently expecting $31 million this weekend.
At fourth place, we have The Mummy which took in $4 million while on pace for a $13.5 million weekend. Finally, rounding out the top five is 47 Meters Down, which is expected to rake in $10.7 million.
The rest of the top ten had the Scarlet Johansson led comedy Rough Night at number six, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales at number seven, Captain Underpants at eight , Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at nine, and A24’s latest horror film It Comes at Night at the bottom.
