Spider-Man: Homecoming has one of the biggest casts the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen. From Robert Downey Jr. to Marisa Tomei to Tom Holland as the titular hero, the film has it all and then some. One role has remained a mystery however. Ever since Donald Glover signed on for the film, the character he was playing hasn’t been confirmed… until now.
According to the official cast list, Donald Glover is playing Aaron Davis aka The Prowler. That name may be familiar because he is Miles Morales’ uncle. In the comics, Miles Morales took up the mantle of Spider-Man from Peter Parker. Aaron is very instrumental in Miles’ life as he assists in Miles obtaining his power.
In the comics world, Miles and his uncle reign from the Earth 1610 Universe, which is separate from the main Earth-616-verse. Aaron, a low level thief, happened to be robbing Oscorp when a radioactive spider fell into his bag. The spider crawled out and bit the young Miles Morales, giving him the powers of Spider-Man.
Based on the trailers, it would seen that Glover will be acting alongside the rest of the villains already confirmed for the film, including Michael Keaton’s Vulture and the two Shocker’s played by Bokeem Woodbine and Logan Marshall-Green. However, this would also hint at Miles Morales existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It may also foreshadow a bigger role for Glover down the line in future films. Is Marvel setting up a big change in the Spider-Verse? I guess we will have to wait and see…
