The DC Extended Universe has several films confirmed to be released in the coming years and one of them will be the next standalone Batman feature, directed by the incredible, Matt Reeves. After production troubles, including Ben Affleck deciding not to direct the film, The Batman seemed to be at a standstill until Reeves accepted the director’s role and got the film back on track.

Recently, Reeves was on Variety’s Playback podcast and spoke about what kind of Batman film he wants to make and the similarities between Caesar, the main character in the rebooted Planet of the Apes films and Batman.

“What I see in Batman that I find so interesting is that, in a way, he reminds me of Caesar, in that he is a character with a really troubled past who is grappling within himself to try to do the right thing in a really imperfect world, in a corrupt world,” Reeves said. “That provides an opportunity, again, if you want to take that point-of-view storytelling — and I can imagine the story as being like a noir. The originals from the golden age were detective stories. I think if you can marry that with the personal, there’s a chance to do something very exciting.”

Recently, Reeves has stated that Warner Bros. is just as excited for the new Batman film as he is, also saying that he feels very “hopeful and positive about it.”

Other than Joe Manganiello being cast as Deathstroke, no other castings for the film has been announced but the leading rumor is that Reeves is interested in making a villian-heavy film. Who knows, maybe Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith could make appearances as Joker, Harley Quinn and Deadshot. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The Batman currently has no release date but keep it locked on Talkies Network for all the latest info regarding the DCEU and the rest of the entertainment world.
