While Spider-Man: Homecoming won’t be out in theatres until July 7, many fans are already gearing up for the next spider-adventure and now Tom Holland is discussing the sequel.
Up until now, all we know is that the sequel to Homecoming will take place minutes after Avengers 4 and will have Tom Holland’s incarnation of the famous character back in high school. The film will also have another huge MCU character co-starring in the film like Robert Downey Jr. in Homecoming.
In an interview with Collider, Holland spoke about the general themes of the sequel that are already being discussed and which villain might appear in the film:
“I will be on Spider-Man 2 about mid-July next year. I think the most interesting thing about a young man’s life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers. That’s something I know I’m definitely excited to explore. I know Kevin [Feige] and the rest of the team are very excited to explore.”
“Villains are obviously the big thing at the moment, but we’ll have to wait and see who we choose. Who they choose.”
The most interesting part of this statement is that the sequel to Homecoming will begin filming July 2018. Avengers 3 is set to wrap production soon but the cast will not have much time to rest as Avengers 4 will begin filming immediately after. As for the villain statement, fans can expect a villain that hasn’t appeared on screen yet. Kevin Feige has said that the MCU Spider-Man films will not have villains that have appeared in previous Sony films show up in this universe.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 8, 2017.
