Edgar Wright Says Sony Wants Him to Make a ‘Baby Driver’ Sequel

Baby Driver is one of the best films of the summer and, for that matter, the year. The action film by genius filmmaker Edgar Wright is a critical and commercial hit so, it’s not surprising that Sony is looking to bring Wright back for a potential sequel.
On the Empire podcast, Wright talked about Sony wanting to make a Baby Driver 2:
“The studio have asked me to think about writing a sequel and it is one of the ones that I might do a sequel to because I think there’s somewhere more to go with it in terms of the characters. Baby has got to a new place.”
Wright also spoke about how he doesn’t want to take Baby back to the beginning. A Baby Driver sequel would have to be something different and refreshing.:
“Most sequels you have to contrive something so they go back to square one, unless there’s somewhere deeper for them to go. I think with Baby Driver there’s more that you can do in that realm, and I sort of have an idea that if you did another [film] you would subvert his involvement in the crime in a different way so he’s not the apprentice anymore.”
Personally, I’m all for a sequel to Baby Driver, as long as Edgar Wright is at the helm. Anyone else and I can’t see myself anticipating a second film. Baby Driver is an Edgar Wright film through and through. So, if Sony were to green-light a sequel, the first thing on the to-do list would be to secure Edgar Wright as writer and director.
Baby Driver is in theatres now.
