Disney is finally releasing new information regarding one of its most anticipated films, The Incredibles 2.
During the Animation Presentation at D23 Expo, Disney’s Chief Creative Officer and head honcho at Pixar, John Lasseter followed up the Wreck-It-Ralph 2 presentation with new info on the superhero sequel. Lasseter went on to say:
“We were wondering how the heck we were gonna follow that, so we’ll follow it with Incredibles 2. There’s one character who is just so interesting from the Incredibles that people keep talking about…”
The character in question? Edna, the creator of all superhero suits in the Incredibles-verse. The fan-favourite character was revealed in a piece that was inspired from Fashion Week in Paris. The presentation then moved on to the titular family.
Director Brad Bird appeared and said:
“It’s so great to be here to tell you about the film. It’s fundamentally a story about family…with this new film, we’re excited to jump back into that world. We have controls able to do so much more than before.”
He then revealed that the whole Incredibles clan will be back for this film but will all be unaware to Jack-Jack’s newfound powers:
“You the audience know that he has super powers but the family is unaware. We’re having fun with that in the film.”
“There’s an issue with the family’s house. So, the family has to get a new house. As you can see, it’s kind of a cross between a dream house and a super lair — a secret agents house or something (Bird showed pictures during the presentation). Water flows throughout the whole building and its made almost entirely of sharp corners which is not ideal for a baby.”
On top of baby proofing their new house, Bird added that the house won’t be the only thing that’s getting expanded:
“The whole world of Incredibles 2 is gonna be greatly expanded upon. We’ll be seeing a lot more of Elastagirl.”
The events in the film will cause a chain of events putting Elastagirl at the centre of the film’s story.
The last bit of information revealed was the cast with Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Mount and Samuel L. Jackson returning and Huck Milner starring as Dash Parr.
The sequel has also been confirmed to take place immediately following the original film, were The Incredibles will fight the Underminer in the opening moments of the sequel.
The Incredibles 2 fights its way into theatres on June 15, 2018
