Yesterday, a report came out that Disney would be showing off Jon Faverau’s upcoming live action remake of The Lion King and that Hugh Jackman would be announced as the man playing the villainous Scar. Well, only one of those proved to be true.

Jackman’s representatives told The Wrap that there was no truth to Jackman being involved with the new version of the animated classic. Originally, Omega Underground reported that Jackman was cast in the film, citing an source involved with the film’s production. Jackman had also posted a picture of him at Disneyland leading fans to believe that he was doing something big with the House of Mouse.

Jackman evidently did not appear at day 2 of Disney’s D23 Expo but Disney did showcase Faverau’s film with footage of the famous “Circle of Life” sequence but this time, in all its CGI glory.

The Lion King cast includes James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Donald Glover as Simba, John Oliver as Zazu,  Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumba and has a scheduled release date of July 19, 2019.
