Wonder Woman just loves hitting milestones. This past weekend, the female-led superhero film increased its domestic total to $380.7 million. Why is that important? Well, Wonder Woman will become the third-biggest domestic release for Warner Bros. ever. It is set to pass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which has a domestic box office total of $381 million.
The studio’s highest grossing films domestically both come from Christopher Nolan. The Dark Knight Rises ranks at number two with a total of $448 million and The Dark Knight reigns supreme at number one with $533.3 million.
On top of all that, the film has already become the highest-grossing film of all time by a female director.
Here’s where things get really interesting however. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they suggest that ” if all goes as planned, Warners and DC will announce a release date for a Wonder Woman sequel at Comic-Con late this week, with Jenkins once again directing.”
Now, take this with a grain of salt for now as they do not continue this thought of an incoming sequel announcement. There have been reports that Patty Jenkins is already in talks to return for a potential Wonder Woman 2 and she and DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns are already writing a treatment for the feature. There was also a rumor suggesting that the sequel will be set during the Cold War but that also remains unconfirmed. It wouldn’t be shocking to expect this kind of announcement as Wonder Woman has proven to be a box office powerhouse as well as being the most critically acclaimed entry into the DCEU. DC is already confirmed to be appearing at Comic Con 2017 this year so anticipate some big announcements with it.
Wonder Woman will next appear on Zack Snyder’s Justice League which is scheduled to be released on November 16, 2017
