At SDCC, Warner Bros. Animation hosted a panel about Young Justice’s upcoming third season, Young Justice: Outsiders, and included concept art of characters both new and old. The first image revealed is of characters first introduced in the second season, and a few characters new to the series being introduced in the third season.
From left to right: Static, Kid Flash II, Robin III, Wonder-girl, Spoiler, Blue Beetle, Thirteen, Arrowette, Arsenal and Beast Boy.
Before the panel finished Greg Weisman, the show’s co-developer and executive producer, revealed an image of a few of the characters from season 1.
From left to right: Artemis, Nightwing, Aqualad and Superboy.
Weisman spoke about how the show has always been generational, and how that would continue into the second season. Stephanie Brown has become Spoiler, a young girl saved in a season 2 story by Artemis was inspired to become a Arrowette and Static was first introduced in season 2 as a civilian. Nothing was revealed about Thirteen, but that’ll make for an even better surprise when season 3 is released (assuming we don’t find out anytime before then).
The third season will consist of 26 episodes, similar to the first season, and the producers even revealed they have ideas for future seasons. This is good news, and considering the generational focus of the series, I hope season 3 touches on the idea of a partner growing to take the place of their mentor.
The season’s official synopsis is as follows:
“In Young Justice: Outsiders, the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.”
Young Justice: Outsiders will be released in 2018.
