All-Female Remake of ‘Lord of the Flies,’ Good or Bad Idea?

Written by: Artur Galvao

A planned adaptation for a beloved book is on the rise. Lord of the Flies is a 1954 novel that examined the evils of humanity within a group of boys that crash onto an island with no adult supervision. However, this reboot wants to make with girls, instead of boys. As expected people got angry at this decision. Feminist and non-feminist alike are both hating and praise this decision.

Quote from the writer of the movie:

We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys, Siegel told Deadline.

It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today, with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying, and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned.”

McGehee said the subject matter “is aggressively suspenseful, and taking the opportunity to tell it in a way it hasn’t been told before, with girls rather than boys, is that it shifts things in a way that might help people see the story anew. It breaks away from some of the conventions, the ways we think of boys and aggression. People still talk about the movie and the book from the standpoint of pure storytelling,” he said. “It is a great adventure story, real entertainment, but it has a lot of meaning embedded in it as well. We’ve gotten to think about this awhile as the rights were worked out, and we’re super eager to put pen to paper.”

Considering it’s largely a satire against mankind and masculinity, many on Twitter have already started to question whether a female-led version would actually make any sense at all.

While others thought that a female version already existed

What do you guys think? Personally I do not really see a problem. Making a story about girls could bring an interesting perceptive in the film. I know the original was a satire on masculinity but this new film could explore the different boundaries that we were not able to do before. Honestly I’m up for anything that can expand a book I love even further. And guys, the script is not even been written yet, so how about we reverse our judgement until the movie comes out. However, everyone has their own opinion and I’d to hear them on the comments down below.
