Valkyrie is Thor’s “Personal Hero” in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

Thor is one of Marvel’s biggest and mightiest heroes but even he has a hero that he looks up to. The hero in question however is not someone the average fan would expect. Odin? Sif? Nope, Thor’s hero is Valkyrie.

The revelation came from Chris Hemsworth himself who sat down with Comicbook during a set visit where he said that Thor is a huge fan of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.

“It’s like Thor’s meeting his hero.  He’s absolutely smitten by her because of her history being Valkyrie and all that. She’s also this beautiful woman, so he’s kind of caught off-guard. She could have him if she wanted. I think he hasn’t come up against that very often.”

Unlike Thor’s relationship with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, Valkyrie is a character that will match Thor in every way and is the furthest thing from a damsel in distress. Tessa Thompson stressed during the same interview that Valkyrie and Thor will be a team during the events of Raganrok.

“Valkyrie becomes sort of a part of this team. She’s hanging out on another planet called Sakar. She is sort of an ex-pat. She is no longer with her tribe of Valkyrie anymore, and she meets Thor and Hulk and share a similar goal that they do. They become friends and kind of teammates in a way.”

Well that’s exciting. Fans have been clamoring for another stand-out Marvel heroine for quite some time now and it looks like Thompson is ready to take on that role. It remains to be seen why Valkyrie eventually decides to leave Sakaar and join the god of thunder but that question will certainly be answered when Thor: Ragnarok flies into theatres.

Thor: Ragnarok premieres on November 3, 2017.
