Fans of the DCEU have been patiently waiting for any kind of update regarding the confirmed Man of Steel sequel. The original film, which premiered in 2013, kicked off the brand new DC Extended Universe with Zack Snyder at the helm. However, with Snyder handling Justice League the solo sequel was in need of a director and today, we finally have confirmation of at least one director who has talked with Warner Bros. about the job, Matthew Vaughn.
In a recent interview with Hey U Guys, the X-Men: First Class and Kingsman: The Golden Circle director confirmed that he has met with Warner Bros. about directing the Superman sequel:
“I am planning another Kingsman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.”
Before I get to Man of Steel, it’s important to note that Vaughan also confirmed that Kingsman 3 is happening and he’s writing it. Now, back to the man of steel. A Superman solo film with Matthew Vaughn at the helm would be a dream come true. Not only is his visual style inline with the current DCEU layout, but Vaughn knows how to craft an emotional, hopeful, and enriching story that has the potential to rejuvenate the character.
It’s also important to note that Vaughn doesn’t know what he’ll do next. Should Kingsman: The Golden Circle prove to be a success, FOX will obviously want Vaughan and his writing partner Jane Goldman back for the third installment as soon as possible which could hinder his chances of directing Man of Steel 2. However, Kingsman 3 could be pushed to make room for Vaughn head on over to DC. But this is all speculation. For now, let’s be happy that a director like Vaughn is in the running to direct Man of Steel 2.
