Brie Larson Wants to Direct a Future Marvel Film

Ten years in and the Marvel Cinematic Universe still continues to grow. As phase three is coming to a close, the women of the MCU are finally getting their shining moment with Ant Man and The Wasp’s Evangeline Lily’s titular hero and Brie Larson signing on to lead Marvel’s first female-centric superhero film, Captain Marvel along with already established female Marvel heroes. Now, before her solo film even starts filming, Brie Larson is looking towards her future with Marvel. Specifically, directing an MCU installment.
In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Larson was asked if she was interested in directing a Marvel film, to which she responded with:
“Oh yeah, that’s my plan. Why not? My new life philosophy is I’m not going to tell myself no. I’m just going to do stuff until someone else tells me no.”
Now this is an exciting prospect. While her comments were probably not too serious, the idea of a female director finally taking on a Marvel film is definitely intriguing.
After Patty Jenkins changed the superhero filmmaking game with Wonder Woman, anything seems possible and it proved that female-led superhero features can be successful and appeal to a large audience. While the MCU is looked at as more successful when compared to the DCEU (obviously due to being around for a decade), this is the one moment where DC has beat Marvel.
Now, Brie Larson’s directing career has just started, but after gaining some more experience behind the camera, why not let her direct a Marvel film? The MCU’s phase four is getting ready to kick off and it’s time for more women to be represented in the gigantic film series.
Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is set to be released on March 6, 2019 but don’t be surprised if you see her in either of the upcoming Avengers films…
