Earlier this month, it was revealed that Tessa Thompson had talked to Kevin Feige about producing an all-female marvel superhero film. While it was an exciting thought, nothing has come of it. Now however, Thompson says she wasn’t the only one who pitched this idea and it seems that Feige is interested in this idea.
In a recent interview with CBR, Thompson spoke about the pitch to the president of Marvel Studios where she revealed that a handful of other female Marvel stars joined her in explaining the potential movie:
“I think in that group was Brie Larson, myself, Zoe Saldana, although she ran off to the bathroom, I think, so she came midway through the pitch but she had been in the rev-up to it. Scarlett Johansson. Pom [Klementieff] and Karen [Gillan], who are both in the Guardians movies. Yeah, I think it was that group. We were just sort of all in a semicircle talking, and it just came up, because none of us really worked together — well, I suppose Zoe, and Karen, and Pom — and wouldn’t it be nice if we could all work together?”
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to wrap this this portion of its film universe with phase 4, fans are clamoring for something new and exciting. With James Gunn already leading the charge on a more cosmic inspired MCU, an all-female superhero film would definitely be a step in the right direction. All we need now is for Elizabeth Olsen and Jaimie Alexander to join the fold and we could potentially have the most anticipated superhero movie of the 2000’s.
Thompson then went on to explain that the excitement the women had about the thought of the film is what drove them to directly approaching Feige:
“And we were sort of speculating on the ways in which it might happen in Infinity War, or might not happen. And we thought, ‘No, we should just have a whole movie where we know every day we’re going to arrive and get to work together.’ So we just ran right up to Kevin Feige and started talking about it.”
While fans are still hoping for a Black Widow solo film, I believe that the thought of Scarlett Johansson kicking ass alongside Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie and Karen Gillian’s Neubla would be a serious sight to behold and one that should be sent to production immediately.
Of course for now, all of this is just thoughts but with Avengers 4 premiering in just under 2 years, fans should expect to see some sort of announcement in regards to what Marvel has in store for the future.
