Rumor: Ben Mendelsohn’s ‘Captain Marvel’ Villain Role Revealed?

Written By: Nick Poulimenakos

A little while ago, news surrounding Marvel’s first female led superhero film, Captain Marvel began to trickle out and one of the biggest stories is Ben Mendelsohn reportedly joining the cast as the main antagonist. Now, if one rumor proves to be correct, Mendelsohn’s role as the film’s main villain may be revealed.

According to an exclusive report by That Hashtag Show, Mendelsohn will be playing Kree Colonel Yon-Rogg. The Marvel Comics character is a jealous rival of Mar-Vell, who will also have a major role in the film as Jude Law has been cast.

Having Yon-Rogg in Captain Marvel is a far cry from a surprise as he plays a vital role in Carol Danvers becoming a superhero. It was one of Rogg’s schemes to defeat Mar-Vell that indirectly gave Carol her powers. When Rogg kidnapped Carol, she came into contact with the psyche-magnitron, a Kree device which combined her DNA with Kree genetics, giving her super strength, flight and much more.

In addition, Marvel has already announced that the film will take inspiration from the classic Avengers comic, The Kree-Skrull War, furthering the idea that Mendelsohn’s Kree warrior will have a role to play here.

Since Marvel hasn’t officially announced Mendelsohn’s involvement in the film, take this with a grain of salt for now. Although, the idea of Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn being a Marvel film together might be Marvel’s match made in heaven.

Captain Marvel is set to debut in theatres on March 8, 2019.
