‘Star Wars The Last Jedi’: Princes William and Harry Cameos Cut From the Film
Written By: Nick Poulimenakos
I don’t consider this a spoiler since they were already announced to be in the film and them being cut doesn’t impact the viewing experience in any way, shape or form.
If you were one of the fans trying to pin point when the British Royal family would make an appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you might be disappointed to hear that Prince William and Prince Harry both had their cameos cut from the final version of the film.
John Boyega spoke with the talk show This Morning where he revealed the news:
“They cut it out of the film. I did personally apologize to them yesterday and said, ‘Sorry you were cut out of the film.’ Will was like, ‘I guess I just need to work more on the skill.'”
At least the future king of England has a sense of humor about it? It makes sense of Boyega to deliver the news as he was the actor who let the cat out of the bag on the brothers appearing in The Last Jedi in the first place. A while back, he appeared on BBC’s Radio 4’s Today program and said this:
“I think they took that scene out. I’ve had enough with those Prince William secrets, man. They came on set; they were there, man. Tom Hardy was there, too – I said it. I’m sick of hiding this… Every time I get asked I don’t know how to dodge it. Yeah, they were on set.”
As you can see, the brothers weren’t the only celebrities to cameo. Tom Hardy apparently was also in the scene feature the princes and, as of now, it is unclear as to whether Hardy is still in The Last Jedi or not.
The princes shouldn’t take the news personally, as The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson revealed that the first cut of the eighth installment in the Skywalker saga clocked it at over three hours before being trimmed down to 152 minutes. Whether the scene was cut for pacing issues or importance on the overall narrative is unknown, but look for the sequence to probably appear on the Blu-ray release.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theatres tonight.
