Arguably the most prolific comic book creator in history, Stan Lee has seen many of his characters come to life on the big screen. Through Fox and Disney, characters such as the X-Men and The Avengers have brought joy to so many fans despite being in separate cinematic universes. But that will soon all change. The deal with between Disney and Fox has now become official and the X-Men and Fantastic Four are set to come home and no one is more excited than Stan Lee himself.
In an interview with Newsarama, Lee was asked about his thoughts on the massive acquisition and he had this to say:
“A truly great piece of news!. Now characters such as the X-Men and the Fantastic Four can come home to the place where they belong. It’s vitally important to have the Marvel characters under one roof. And now, as great as they were before, I can’t wait to see the wonders that will unfold!”
It’s hard to not see what Lee isn’t ecstatic. Back in the 1990’s, Lee watched as Marvel was close to bankrupt and saw his many creations being sold to different film studios. Because of this, the X-Men film franchise was born as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Spider-Men film series at Sony. But now, almost all of the major Marvel characters are under one roof, leaving the door open for immense story possibilities.
As part of the deal Disney (and subsequently Marvel) get the film rights back for the X-Men characters and the Fantastic Four characters. This includes the main cast of those franchises, such as Wolverine, Storm, Jean Grey, Magneto, Invisible Woman, Silver Surfer and Human Torch. In addition it also includes the side characters, locations, and factions associated with this franchises.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is now free to use any and all cosmic entities from the Marvel Comics-verse such as the Negative Zone as well as The Avengers facing off against villains like Kang and Annihilus.
