It would seem that the recent Disney/Fox merger has not stopped the X-Men franchise from making new movies. After reporting that Fox’s X-Force movie is still happening with Drew Goddard signing on to write and direct, Fox has now commissioned Deadpool director Tim Miller to develop a Kitty Pryde solo film.
In an exclusive report by Collider, Miller is already hard a work on the solo film that would be centered on the phasing member of the X-Men. Miller is also apparently in the running to direct the feature as well.
Kitty Pryde, who is also known by her alias, Shadowcat, has been featured in several prior X-Men films, most notably debuting in X-Men: The Last Stand and having a prominent role in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The character was portrayed by Ellen Page in both films and the report does not say whether she would return to the role or not.
Miller has kept himself busy since his fantastic directorial debut with Deadpool. Despite parting ways with Fox during Deadpool 2’s production, Miller is now directing the next installment of the Terminator franchise along with producing a Sonic The Hedgehog movie. It is nice to see that Miller and Fox worked out their differences to potentially bring another solo mutant film to the big screen.
At this point, the film is in its early stages and Collider is quick to note that the film might not actually see the light of day given Disney now owning the X-Men. The house of mouse bought Fox for a reported $52.4 billion, giving them the film rights to the famous Marvel superhero franchise. Fox’s X-Men franchise is still very much alive and well, with several films scheduled to be released this year in addition to the ones already in development. James Franco is said to be developing a Multiple Man film, Channing Tatum’s Gambit feature will be entering production soon and James Mangold is hard at work on an X-23 solo film. But we will just have to wait and see what Disney and Kevin Feige decide to do with their newly obtained mutant characters.
