‘Stranger Things’ Season 3: Cary Elwes, Jake Busey Join Cast

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos discussed the streaming giant’s upcoming international productions at the See What’s Next event in Rome this afternoon, saying “Our next Stranger Things could come from anywhere in the world.” While talking about the award winning cultural phenomenon, Sarandos announced two new faces for Season 3.

Joining the cast in guest roles are Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) as Mayor Kline and Jake Busey (The Predator) as a mystery character named Bruce. Sarandos didn’t immediately provide details on the characters, but noted that “hits don’t come bigger” than the show created by sibling team Matt and Ross Duffer.

Plotlines for Season 3 are being kept under wraps and it doesn’t yet have an air date, although Stranger Things Executive Producer Shawn Levy told PaleyFest in late March, “We are going back to work next month, and we’re super excited.”

The series follows the supernatural adventures of a group of kids in 80s-era fictional small town Hawkins, and has been an enormous hit with audiences and critics alike. The disruptive platform’s Sarandos noted today that Stranger Things‘ Season 2 release generated “twenty times more tweets than all movies released the same week” and had “higher social engagement than the Game Of Thrones Season 7 premiere.”
