Fans have been wondering when Rick and Morty would be picked up for a forth season by Adult Swim, and today were gifted with more than they bargained for. Through Twitter (linked below) and really cool drawing, Justin Roiland has revealed that the critically acclaimed and beloved television series was given a seventy episode order from Cartoon Network.
Considering that Rick and Morty was not given an official renewal prior to this announcement, it can be inferred that the series’ fourth season would be included in the seventy episode order. Considering the length of the average season – – which will most likely not change due to the production time spent on ten episodes – – fans could potentially look forward to seven more seasons of the hit show, giving it a total of ten. Once again taking into account the long production time spent on the series, this could mean more than ten years worth of Rick and Morty to look forward to watching.
This is a rather unprecedented move for the network and a rarity in the world of television. The series has been critically acclaimed and has drawn in a large fan-base during its run, something that clearly reflects on Cartoon Network’s decision regarding Rick and Morty’s renewal. Most of the time if a show is very successful it will be similar to Westworld, which gets a season renewal after two or three episodes have aired. The only one that comes to mind is the one hundred episode series order Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management was given at FX. Regardless this is great news for concerned Rick and Morty fans, and now that they know the show will return they can focus their energy on building up the patience for season 4’s arrival.
