The CW has found it’s Batwoman in Australian actress and Orange Is the New Black star, Ruby Rose.
Batwoman’s first appearance will be in the upcoming CW Arrowverse crossover event in December as well as in a potential Batwoman series the CW is currently developing. The series is expected to release during the 2019-2020 season and has Greg Berlanti, writer and producer of Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Flash as well as Caroline Dries, executive producer and writer of The Vampire Diaries, on board.
Ruby Rose found her breakout role as Stella Carlin in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black but is no stranger to action. She’s had large roles in action films like XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, John Wick: Chapter Two, and the upcoming The Meg.
The official plot synopsis for the potential Batwoman series is as follows:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
If the project goes to series, Batwoman will become the first gay lead character of a live-action superhero series.
