The third of the DC Universe streaming service’s live-action shows has finally found its lead(s) as Swamp Thing has cast IT: Chapter 2‘s Andy Bean and Sleepy Hollow’s Derek Mears to play Alec Holland and Swamp Thing respectively.
Based off of the DC comics character of the same name, Bean’s character is a passionate biologist who emerges from the swamp “with a monstrous physique and strange new powers over plant life.” He soon finds he has to use his newfound powers to defend the Louisiana town of Marais from “dark forces” that arise.
Mears on the other hand will play the practical creature version of Swamp Thing after his transformation. Mears is very familiar with the makeup chair after playing several memorable TV creatures and aliens such as in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Bean and Mears join a cast that already includes Teen Wolf and Gotham alum Crystal Reed as CDC researcher Abby Arcane, Jennifer Beals (The L Word) as Sheriff Lucilia Cable and Virginia Madsen.
Aquaman director James Wan and Len Wiseman are on board as executive producers on the series, set to debut next year, with Wiseman set to helm the pilot.
Swamp Thing is rumored to hit the DC streaming service some time within the next couple of years.
