As many Star Wars fans recall, JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens featured our young new Jedi, Rey, experience a vision from the force. This vision included bringing Rey to several spots in the Star Wars universe, such as a future duel with Kylo Ren, the destruction of Luke Skywalker’s new Jedi temple, but also to the scene where Darth Vader and Luke first fought. Now, a new photo has surfaced showing that Luke Skywalker not only would have appeared as a hooded figure in the vision, but also in the flashback to the Cloud City battle!
Thanks to reddit and Twitter, a photo of actor Robert Boulter has made its way online, showing him in full Luke Skywalker/Bespin clothing. As you will see below, all of the details of Luke Skywalker’s look from the film have been meticulously recreated for this scene. We assume that Boulter would have been touched up with makeup and CGI to more closely resemble a young Mark Hamill.
Rey’s "Force Vision" in THE FORCE AWAKENS originally included Luke & Vader's duel from The Empire Strikes Back. The scene was cut but thanks to Reddit, we're finally getting our first look at what ESB Luke would have looked like in TFA, played by Robert Boulter. Wild stuff. pic.twitter.com/oMWl7cM72Q

This actually ties into rumors first brought up by Making Star Wars, who reported that Robert Boulter could be playing a young Luke in the film. It would have been interesting to see how this reenactment of Luke and Vader’s duel from Empire Strikes Back would have played out in Rey’s vision.
It would be interesting to hear why Abrams decided against including the full-on Luke/Vader battle, but if we were to speculate, it probably had to do with Abrams wanting to focus more on Rey dealing with coming into contact with the force and save Luke Skywalker for the final reveal. Whatever the case may be, let’s hope that Abrams will one day speak on the matter.
