After earlier news was released about Awkwafina joining the film, Sony Pictures has now tapped Danny DeVito to join the cast of the upcoming Jumanji sequel.
DeVito will be joining returning cast members Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Jake Kasdan is set to come back as director and return to write the script along with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the sequel to the original 1995 Jumanji film, was a huge box office hit, bringing in $962 million worldwide. While the first film focused on a board game, the second film turned it’s attention to a video game. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle followed a group of four teens transported into the world of Jumanji, where they turn into their adult avatars.
Dwayne Johnson said that “The magic of Jumanji is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas. Dwanta Claus loves everyone.”
The plot of the next film and details on DeVito’s character have not been released yet.
