15 years after worked together on the Oscar-winning Lost in Translation, Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray are re-teaming for father-daughter feature On the Rocks.
The movie marks the first project under the deal between indie studio A24 and Apple, which was announced in November of last year. The deal will see the growing studio producing a slate of multiple films for the tech giant’s upcoming streaming service. Coppola joining the pact marked Apple’s first announcement regarding its feature film plans.
Rashida Jones has been announced as the film’s female lead, playing a young mother who reconnects with her larger-than-life playboy father (Bill Murray) on an adventure through New York. On the Rocks will film on location in New York City this spring.
As of now, it is unclear if the film will be an online exclusive or if it will also see action on the big screen. A24 typically handles its own distribution when it comes to theatrical releases.
