Christopher Nolan’s next movie is slowly but surely coming together.
Warner Bros. announced Friday that Nolan’s next film will open in IMAX on July 17, 2020.
The project is described as an event film, but nothing else is known about Nolan’s latest project. The writer-director has a taste for secrecy, writing his scripts away from any prying eyes.
The filmmaker is coming off of the World War II epic Dunkirk, which won three Academy Awards and earned the filmmaker his first best director Oscar nomination. The Warner Bros. film raked in $526.9 globally.
The release date is a familiar one for Nolan, who has a predisposition for July releases. Of the filmmaker’s last five features, four have opened in that mid-July spot, including 2008’s The Dark Knight, 2010’s Inception, 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, and 2017’s Dunkirk. Interstellar was the lone exception, opening in November 2014.
His next film will face significant competition, with Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie and Fox’s Bob’s Burgers opening on July 17, 2020 . Disney’s Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, opens up a week later on July 24, 2020.
