Josh Gad Reportedly Teaming with ‘Once Upon a Time’ Creators for ‘Muppets’ Revival on Disney+

After an abysmal series on ABC, The Muppets are apparently set to make yet another comeback to the small screen, only this time, it’ll be online!

Nearly a full year ago, we learned that Disney was interested in reviving The Muppets for a new series on the upcoming streaming service Disney+. Now some details have made their way online as to who Disney has tapped to lead the series.

The Splash Report (a fairly reliable source for scoops) has learned that Frozen voice actor Josh Gad is working with ABC’s Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz on this new Muppets show. As of now, the project is going by the title Muppets Live Another Day, and will be set entirely in the past.

This new show is said to take place immediately following the events of The Muppets Take Manhattan in 1984. The gang is disbanded by Kermit for some reason, but they all must come back together following the mysterious disappearance of Rowlf.

The series sounds like it has a promising premise. Since the late 90s, it has always seemed like there was something missing from every incarnation of The Muppets. The only one that felt true to the original Jim Henson productions was the 2011 film starring Jason Segel.

Gad already has a great relationship with the house of mouse, having starred in Frozen and its upcoming sequel, Beauty and the Beast, and a live action remake of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

At this point in time, the series is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2020. Keep it locked on Talkies Network for all the latest news about this new rumored Muppet series!
