Spike Lee has found a home and a star for his next joint.
According to Variety, Lee has eyed Chadwick Boseman to star in his upcoming film Da 5 Bloods. Netflix is in talks to distribute the movie, with Delroy Lindo and Jean Reno also in negotiations to star.
Lee will direct from an original screenplay by Danny Bilson & Paul DeMeo, which was rewritten by Matthew Billingsley. Lee will also produce with Beatriz Levin & Lloyd Levin, and Jon Kilik.
The film follows Vietnam veterans who go back to the jungle to find their lost innocence and put their broken selves back together.
Insiders expect production to begin as early as next month once Lee’s Oscar campaign on BlacKkKlansman – which raked in 6 Oscar noms – has officially wrapped up. Da 5 Bloods is Lee’s first film for the streaming giant. He also executive produces their TV adaptation of his film She’s Gotta Have It.
Boseman has experienced a whirlwind of a year, having starred as T’Challa/Black Panther in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther. The film made history as the first comic book movie to receive a best picture nomination.
