If any rumor turns out to be true, I hope it’s this one.
The rumor of an Obi-Wan Kenobi project under the Disney/Star Wars banner has been around for quite some time now. At one point, it was said that Lucasfilm was full steam ahead on it, even bringing in director Stephen Daldry. Ewan McGregor was also rumored to be returning to the role that skyrocketed his career.
However, following the disappointing box office return for Solo, Disney put the breaks on future anthology film projects. Now, a new rumor a surfaced, claiming that Obi-Wan will return, just on the small screen.
Star Wars News Net is reporting that Disney+ is currently working on an Obi-Wan Kenobi mini-series. The rumored episode count is six and McGregor has not been confirmed to be returning for the show.
The report ties into a statement from Disney CEO Bob Iger, who said that the company was “rethinking our approach” to Star Wars films.
Ewan McGregor was at the Solo: A Star Wars Story premiere last year, where man fans theorized that he was going to announce the proposed Obi-Wan project. Once again however, a mixed response to the film halted those plans. Contrary to his constant mysterious replies to questions about the character, McGregor has reportedly been on board with returning as Kenobi since day one.
A Kenobi series would be the next project in a long line of confirmed and proposed Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. In addition to Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, other rumored shows for the streaming platform include The Knights of Ren, Captain Phasma and a show based on Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico.
There is no confirmation on whether or not an announcement of the series is coming, but should this rumor turn out to be true, look to this year’s Star Wars Celebration for a formal announcement from Lucasfilm.
