WHAT YOU GONNA DO BROTHER, WHEN THOR-A-MANIA, RUNS WILD ON YOU?!
THR is is reporting that Chris Hemsworth will star as wrestling superstar Hulk Hogan in a Netflix biopic from the team of Todd Phillips with Scott Silver, the respective director and writer of the upcoming DC Comics movie, The Joker.
Deals for the Hogan project will so close with Netflix. Producing will be Michael Sugar, the Academy Award winner behind Spotlight who will produce via his Netflix-based Sugar23, as well as Phillips and Bradley Cooper who will produce via their company, Joint Effort. Also producing will be Hemsworth and former WCW and WWE star, Eric Bischoff.
One of the biggest names in wrestling of all time, Hogan was a fixture on TV sets in 1980s America as part of the World Wrestling Federation, winning multiple world titles and becoming the company’s biggest name. The 90s however saw the Hulkster leave for World Championship Wrestling, where he left his heroic nature behind to lead the villainous New World Order (nWo) faction.
The biopic will not delve into the troubles of his later years, but instead, act as an origin story. Sources say it will focus on the Hogan’s rise in the WWF but they did not confirm if Hogan’s WCW days will be looked at as well.
The deal, which took months to put together, will include life rights with Hogan himself acting as a consultant on the movie as well as executive producer.
