According to Variety, Fast and Furious star Tyrese Gibson is in talks to join Jared Leto in Morbius, the upcoming Marvel film based on the Spider-Man villain.
Exact details of who Gibson would play are currently unknown but he’ll be starring alongside Leto as Morbius and Matt Smith, whose role has yet to be announced. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, co-creators of the Netflix series Lost in Space are penning the script, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Lucas Foster will be producing, and Daniel Espinosa, director of Safe House, will direct the movie.
Morbius was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. The character made his first appearance in “The Amazing Spider-Man #101″ as a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease but ended up plagued with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood. Morbius would continue to appear sporadically in Marvel Comics and was revived in the 1992 series “Morbius, the Living Vampire,” which ran through April of 1995.
Most recently, Gibson was announced to star in and produce the upcoming Warner Bros.’ biopic on singer/songwriter Teddy Pendergrass. He is also shooting Black & Blue for Screen Gems and is expected to begin filming the ninth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise.
