Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, is one of the most acclaimed games to ever hit the PC platform. Fans everywhere have been longing for Lucasfilm to adapt the massive world for a live-action project, whether that be TV or film. Now, the president of Lucasfilm herself has confirmed that there has been some movement on development.
Speaking with MTV News, Kathleen Kennedy was asked about a possible Knights of the Old Republic film directly when she:
“You know we talk about that all time and yes, we are developing something to look at.”
Something to look at? Now, what could that mean? Kennedy was obviously careful with her words, and did not confirm whether the game would see the light of day on the big screen or the small screen.
With Star Wars moving away from the Skywalker saga, a KOTOR film series would make for a perfect franchise. That being said, Rian Johnson, as well as Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B Weiss are also hard at work on film series’. So that may oversaturate the market.
Disney+ also presents a viable option as a Knights of the Old Republic television series could become of the platform’s flagship products and experience similar success to HBO’s Game of Thrones.
In addition to the KOTOR comment, Kennedy also confirmed Lucasfilm is looking for female directors to helm entries in the franchise once its future is planned out.
