The Saw franchise is coming back in full force. Recent reports suggest that Chris Rock along with producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules have come together to develop a re-imagined spinoff of the Saw films. This new film has been given an October 23, 2020 release date from parent company Lionsgate.
In a recent interview, Rock stated that he is “excited by the opportunity to take [Saw] to a really intense and twisted new place”. Joe Drake (Lionsgate’s motion picture group chairman), echoes this sentiment, stating how the company was “all-in” when Rock “described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer”.
In turn, the film’s story will be based off the original ideas proposed by Rock, all while being written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. Making a return to the Saw franchise is Darren Lynn Bousman who will helm this new iteration.
This is an exciting time for Chris Rock fans and horror fans alike. What do you think of Chris Rock developing a new Saw film? Leave a comment and let the Talkies team know!
