Marvel’s first family is finally back home with Marvel Studios, and now, we may have an idea of when they will arrive in the MCU.
A new report from Geeks WorldWide claims that Marvel and Disney are currently aiming to have a new Fantastic Four movie out in 2022. The rumor, which I can also confirm to have heard from two sources, is said to be a pretty high priority within Marvel Studios due to the implications of the IP. The Fantastic Four is best known as Stan Lee’s first superhero creation in the 1960s and kicked off the Marvel we know today.
Marvel Studios reportedly has an in-house director ready to go with a pitch for the film. GWW believes that its Ant-Man director Peyton Reed, who actually pitched a 60’s Fantastic Four movie to Fox before they went with Tim Story’s version.
“Visually, one of the things we always talked about – and this was 2003 – was The Fantastic Four as daytime superheroes,” said Reed when discussing his original pitch for the film. “They don’t have secret identities. They’re very much a part of the fabric of Manhattan. In that universe, if you go to New York to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty or the Baxter Building, it was all a part of that. We talked about it being a ’60s period movie, but Fox at the time was not into it.”
There are currently three MCU movies set for release in 2022. The July 29th date, which historically has been a spot reserved for Ant-Man, is currently the favourite for the eventual debut of Marvel’s first family.
