After years of rumors and theories, it’s been confirmed that there’s going to be a reboot of the popular cartoon series The Boondocks and creator Aaron McGruder is expected to be a part of it.
The Boondocks debuted on Adult Swim in 2005 and ran for four seasons. It’s most recent season, season four, was heavily criticized due to the fact that it was made without creator McGruder.
The new version of the show will still follow Huey, Riley, and Grandpa Freeman, three of the show’s original main characters, as they battle with Uncle Ruckus, an African-American white supremacist who has seized control of the local government in the family’s hometown.
So far, at least one member of the show’s original cast is on board. John Witherspoon (the voice of Grandpa) confirmed that he would be returning during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience in early June. Regina King, the voice of Huey and Riley, has yet to mention any status on her return.
