Prior to Taika Waititi’s return to the Marvel universe, he’ll tackle a mysterious new project as his next film.
According to Variety, Waititi is attached to write and direct an untitled project with Fox Searchlight landing rights to distribute and Garret Basch producing. This will mark the second time that Waititi works with Fox Searchlight, the first being his upcoming satire Jojo Rabbit which is set to release in October and stars Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell. No title or plot details are currently known about the secret project.
Waititi recently signed back on to direct Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth Thor film. The signing was announced at Comic-Con and the film has Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson returning to join Waititi. Waititi’s return to the Marvel universe forced him to postpone his Akira movie at Warner Bros., as the scope of the anime adaptation would not give him enough time to focus on shooting and production for Thor: Love and Thunder.
Although no plot details are known, Fox Searchlight has already greenlit the project for a fall shoot.
