Former ‘Doctor Who’ Peter Capaldi Joins James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

According to Deadline, former Doctor Who actor Peter Capaldi is joining James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad at Warner Bros. The site also reported that Saturday Night Live‘s Pete Davidson is in talks for a small cameo in the film. No details have been given as to which roles either actor will play.

Capaldi has won an Oscar and BAFTA for directing and writing a live-action short of Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Capaldi also directed nine episodes of BBC’s Getting On and his acting credits include BBC’s TV series The Thick of ItWorld War Z, Paddington 2, and Christopher Robin.

Pete Davidson has become a fan-favorite of Saturday Night Live ever since he joined the show in September of 2014. He recently starred and co-wrote a film for Universal, which opens on June 19, 2020. Davidson also starred in Netflix’s Motley Crue biopic The Dirt, Sony’s Angry Birds 2, and has a large role in The Jesus Rolls, the upcoming The Big Lebowski spinoff.

The Cast for The Suicide Squad includes some members from the original film such as Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman as well as new castmembers including Idris Elba, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, and Taika Waititi. Along with directing the film, Gunn also wrote the scriptChuck Roven and Peter Safran are producing and Nik Korda is serving as executive producer.

Production for the film is expected to begin on September 23.
