Hayley Atwell to Join Tom Cruise in Next ‘Mission: Impossible’

On Friday, Christopher McQuarrie announced on Instagram that Marvel actress Hayley Atwell will be joining the next Mission: Impossible film, Mission: Impossible 7.

McQuarrie shared a photo of Atwell on his Instagram, asking her if she would “choose to accept” this new role. Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt for the upcoming film, with McQuarrie set to return to write and direct the series’ seventh entry.

McQuarrie was behind 2015’s Rogue Nation as well as last year’s Fallout. Rogue Nation was well-received and was said to be the start of a new revival within the franchise. Fallout was also well-received and became the series’ highest-grossing film, earning $791.1 million globally.

Atwell is known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel franchise. She’s appeared in the Captain America films, Avengers: Endgame, and also starred in the television series Agent Carter. She’ll also be reprising her role for an episode of the upcoming Marvel animated Disney+ series, What If…? Outside of Marvel, she recently starred in the film Blinded by the Light and appeared in last year’s Christopher Robin.

The next Mission: Impossible film is slated to release on July 23, 2021.
