Jodie Comer, who recently won an Emmy for best drama actress for her role in Killing Eve, is in talks to star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film, The Last Duel. Comer will star alongside Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
The Last Duel is a revenge-drama set in 14th century France and follows a man who goes to war and returns to discover a friend of his has raped his wife. No one will believe the couple, and the soldier is forced to appeal to the king of France. The man asks that he be allowed to fight a duel to the death to decide the man’s fate, and the contest becomes the last legally sanctioned duel in France.
Nicole Holofcener is co-writing the script along with Damon and Affleck. The two actors will also produce along with Ridley Scott and Kevin Walsh. Drew Vinton is also producing and Madison Ainsley will executive produce.
Comer found her breakout role as the female assassin Villanelle in BBC’s Killing Eve. Before starting production on The Last Duel, Comer will shoot Season 3 of the show, which is expected to start production in the upcoming weeks. Comer will also appear in the upcoming Disney-Fox comedy Free Guy, where she’ll be starring opposite Ryan Reynolds. The film is expected to release next year.
Although casting for The Last Duel has already begun, the film has not yet been greenlit and it’s rumored that the studio is still deciding how to move forward. If the film does move forward, The Last Duel is expected to go into production in early 2020.
