After much speculation, The CW is officially working on a Superman TV series, set in the Arrowverse.
Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles as the title characters, is in development at The CW. The series is produced by Greg Berlanti, with former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing writing the script and executive producing the potential series. Insiders note that Helbing stepped away from The Flash to work on the Superman project.
The series revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comics’ most famous journalist handle the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.
Superman & Lois marks the second Arrowverse spinoff set for the 2020-21 TV season. Recently, franchise head Greg Berlanti announced a female-led Arrow spinoff starring starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy.
This will be the first television project starring the last son of Krypton since Smallville, and will be the character’s first leading appearance since Henry Cavill in Justice League.
Hoechlin was first cast as Clark Kent/Superman in 2016, starring in multiple episodes of Supergirl, and has become a mainstay in Arrowverse crossovers. He will be joined by Brandon Routh and Tom Welling in this year’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, where all three will star as a different version of Superman.
