Similar to most of the characters in Game of Thrones, HBO has given the axe to one of its many in-development GOT spin-offs.
HBO announced today, in an exclusive report from Deadline, that it is not moving forward with a prequel series written by Jane Goldman and starring Naomi Watts. The series, created by Goldman and George RR Martin, was set to take place thousands of years before the events of the series. The era, known as the “Age of Heroes,” would have seen the first ever battle between man and White Walker,
According to insiders, Goldman e-mailed the cast to share the news. Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, Joshua Whitehouse, Marquis Rodrigez and more, were set to star in the prequel’s pilot, which had already been shot. Sources say that production was apparently troubled, and compared it to the original Game of Thrones pilot, which had to be almost entirely re-shot.
News of the prequel’s demise comes not too long after HBO announced a second prequel series, created by George RR Martin and Ryan J. Condal. This series is said to be focusing on the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, set 300 years before the events in Game of Thrones.
