Russo Brothers Developing Marvel vs. DC Docu-Series for Quibi

It was bound to happen sooner or later. A Marvel vs. DC documentary series is officially happening.

The Russo Brothers, best known as the directors behind Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Solider, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, are developing a new show to Quibi documenting the decades-long rivalry between Marvel and DC.

Quibi, created by Jeffery Katzenberg, is a mobile TV subscription startup. The service greenlit Slugfest, inspired by Reed Tucker’s book “Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-Year Battle between Marvel and DC.”

The docu-series will chronicle the growth of comic books as a new American art form, following the rise of the two companies that went on to become comics-publishing and Hollywood powerhouses.

The series promises to cover the nitty-gritty aspects of the storied rivalry, and will include interviews with creators of the best-known superhero characters in the world.

Also spotlighted will be the history behind the monumental handshake between Superman and Spider-Man in the first official Marvel-DC crossover comic in the ’70s.

The Russo Brothers are the latest major filmmakers to partner with the streamer. Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro, Antoine Fuqua, Sam Raimi, Jason Blum, Steven Soderbergh, Catherine Hardwick, Anna Kendrick, Doug Liman, Laurence Fishburne and Stephen Curry’s Unanimous Media, have all committed projects to Quibi.
