Henry Cavill on His Future as Superman: “The cape is in the closet, it’s still mine.”

As the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign continues on, fans everywhere have been clamoring for an update on the future of DC’s resident son of Krypton.

Of all the members of the DCEU Justice League, Superman himself, Henry Cavill, has remained quiet on his future as the legendary hero. News reports came out last year saying that he was officially done with the role, but those were quickly squashed. Now, Cavill himself has finally opened up about his future in the role, saying that he isn’t done yet with playing Superman.

In this week’s Men’s Health Magazine, Cavill is the cover star, and opened up about what the future holds for Superman in film:

“The cape is in the closet, It’s still mine. I’ve not given up on the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman. Lot of storytelling to do..There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. Status is: You’ll see”

So, there you have it, while the future may not be mapped out, as of now, Cavill is still DC’s cinematic Superman. It is unclear as to why Warner Bros. has continuously dragged their feet on another Supes film, although some rumors suggest that J.J Abrams is gearing up to direct a new film about the Man of Tomorrow (pure speculation coupled with unconfirmed rumors for this point).

Still, it’s good to see that Cavill remains hopeful about his DC future. Later on in the interview, his time on Batman V Superman and Justice League was briefly discussed, to which Cavill said that JL, just simply didn’t work out the way anyone had wanted it to:

Man of Steel? A great starting point. If I were to go back, I don’t think I’d change anything.” Batman v Superman? Very much a Batman movie. And I think that realm of darkness is great for a Batman movie. Justice League? It didn’t work.”

Cavill almost reprised his role in the critically acclaimed Shazam! but a scheduling conflict with Mission – Impossible: Fallout prevented it from happening.

Whatever the future holds, let’s just be glad that Cavill is excited to still be Superman.
