Well, talk about a shocking way to kick off 2020’s film news.
Christian Bale is reportedly in talks to join Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder. The film, which has Taika Waititi returning as director (and taking over as writer), stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster (who will also assume the powers of the god of thunder).
The news, which comes as an exclusive from Collider, notes that Marvel, and Bale’s reps, did not respond for comment. This would be Bale’s first comic book movie role since appearing in Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman finale The Dark Knight Rises.
Waititi made waves back in 2017 with Thor: Ragnarok, a film that effectively rebooted the titular character, and was a critical and commercial success. The fourth film will see Thompson’s Valkyrie on the hunt for a queen, while Thor will most likely be returning from his adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Jane Foster, who hasn’t been seen in a major role since Thor: The Dark World, will some how gain the powers of Thor.
Bale currently stars in Fox/Disney’s racing drama Ford v Ferrari, which has grossed more than $200 million worldwide.
