Disney+ Developing ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Prequel Series

Streaming service Disney+ will be teaming with Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz for a Beauty and the Beast limited series.

The series will serve as a prequel to the 2017 feature film and actors Josh Gad and Luke Evans are expected to be joining the project. Kitsis and Horowitz will serve as showrunners alongside Gad. Gad, Kitsis, and Horowitz will all write scripts for the series.

The untitled limited series is said to be a six-episode musical event, with composer Alan Menken in talks to return as well. Although the project is currently in the early development stage, there are already rumors that the series will take place before the events of the film and also expand the Beauty and the Beast universe.

The live-action Beauty and the Beast film was released in 2017 and earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Currently, Kitsis and Horowitz are also show running Apple’s anthology Amazing Stories, which will debut on the TV+ platform on Friday.
